IBADAN, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — Raji Samad Adetola, the Nigerian skit maker and fast-rising comedian popularly known as Sanku Comedy, has died following a car crash on the Oyo–Ogbomoso expressway, colleagues confirmed Tuesday.
The entertainer, who first rose to prominence in 2021 with his witty storytelling and the viral skit series Zanku Exchange, was involved in the accident on Monday. He was rushed with friends to a nearby hospital, sparking prayers and concern from fans on social media.
Yoruba actress Funmi Awelewa confirmed his death in a post on Instagram, recounting her frantic efforts to get updates.
“When I saw the news online, I quickly sent one of my students that stays close to Bowen hospital and he told me that he met one of your friends at the hospital who told us that you’re responding to treatment. I prayed God, we prayed!!!!” Awelewa wrote.
In a separate caption, she revealed the late comedian had a role in her upcoming film.
“The pain, effort, strength, struggle… nothing makes sense. I’m heartbroken. Even the film is not out yet. It doesn’t make sense for real,” she added.
The tragedy came just hours after Sanku posted a TikTok video in which he appeared with a friend, captioning it: “When it’s time for us to enjoy what we worked hard for, may we never lose our lives.”
Fans and colleagues across Nigeria’s entertainment industry continued to pour in tributes for the comedian, who had quickly become one of the country’s most promising comic voices.
