ABUJA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has urged citizens to learn basic combat skills for self-defense, saying it should be treated as essential for survival.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Musa said Nigerians must see security awareness and personal protection as vital, just like driving and swimming.
“That one should be taken as learning driving, learning how to swim,” Musa said. “Whether we have war or not, it is a survival instinct. In Europe, swimming is compulsory; [so is] learning and teaching about security because you have to learn what security is.”
The defence chief suggested that the National Youth Service Corps should integrate unarmed combat training into its program for graduates, describing it as a way to prepare them for “day-to-day survival against dark-hearted men.”
Musa stressed that safeguarding the country is not solely the responsibility of security forces. He called on Nigerians to remain alert to their surroundings and to take note of suspicious individuals.
“Security is the responsibility of all Nigerians,” he said.
