ABUJA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — The average retail price of petrol in Nigeria rose by more than 33% between July 2024 and July 2025, the National Bureau of Statistics said Thursday.
In its Premium Motor Spirit Price Watch report for July 2025, the bureau said the average price of a litre of petrol climbed to 1,024.99 naira, up from 770.54 naira a year earlier.
“Comparing the average price value with the previous month of June, the average retail price decreased by 1.22 per cent from N1,037.66,” the report said.
A breakdown by state showed Jigawa had the highest average price at 1,107.52 naira per litre, followed by Lagos at 1,100.29 naira and Sokoto at 1,100.00 naira.
Conversely, Zamfara recorded the lowest average price at 884.63 naira, while Yobe and Kogi followed at 950.60 and 986.67 naira, respectively.
By region, the Northwest Zone recorded the highest average retail price at 1,035.85 naira per litre, while the Northeast Zone had the lowest at 1,017.65 naira.
