YOKOHAMA, Japan — Nissan Motor Co. and its motorsports division unveiled the Aura NISMO RS Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon on Friday, showcasing a wide-body “hot hatch” that blends electric powertrain technology with professional racing aerodynamics.
The concept represents a significant performance leap for the Aura nameplate, utilizing a high-output e-POWER system borrowed from the larger X-Trail NISMO. Nissan officials described the vehicle as a “technical validation exercise” that the company is currently evaluating for potential mass production.
“Under our Re:Nissan strategy, we are committed to introducing heartbeat models at speed that resonate with customers,” said Yutaka Sanada, president and CEO of Nissan Motorsports & Customizing (NMC). “We are extremely pleased to unveil the Aura NISMO RS Concept as our first offering born from our collective NMC expertise.”
The vehicle features a dramatically wider stance, with fenders expanded by 145 mm (about 5.7 inches) and a ride height lowered by 20 mm. The exterior is finished in an exclusive Dark Matte NISMO Stealth Gray, complemented by a front spoiler, rear diffuser, and side air splitters designed to increase downforce while reducing drag.
Under the hood, the RS Concept utilizes Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel control technology. By pairing the lightweight Aura frame with the X-Trail’s dual-motor setup, the car produces 150 kW of power from the front motor and 100 kW from the rear. To manage the increased performance, Nissan equipped the concept with large four-piston front calipers and two-piston rear calipers.
Despite a weight increase of approximately 100 kg (220 lbs) over the standard Aura NISMO, the company says the enhanced powertrain and high-grip Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires provide superior handling on both straightaways and winding roads.
Sanada noted that the NISMO brand remains rooted in the pursuit of victory through technical limits. “That passion has driven innovation and peak excitement; and we’ll continue striving to deliver that to customers and fans worldwide,” he said.
Beyond the showroom, Nissan and NMC indicated they plan to refine the concept for possible racing applications.
