HELSINKI, Sept. 29, 2025 (Chatnewstv.com) – Nordic energy ministers will meet in Helsinki on Oct. 1 to discuss energy security and cooperation in the electricity market, Finland’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment said on Monday.
Finland, which currently holds the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers together with Åland, will be represented by Minister of Climate and the Environment, Sari Multala, while Åland will be represented by Minister Camilla Gunell.
“The discussion on energy security will be led by Minister Multala, Iceland’s Minister for the Environment, Energy and Climate Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, and Julijus Grubliauskas, Energy Security team lead at NATO headquarters,” the ministry said in a statement.
Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, Svitlana Hrynchuk, will brief the Nordic ministers on her country’s experience of energy security during Russia’s invasion.
“Russia has systematically targeted and destroyed Ukraine’s energy infrastructure – power plants and the electricity grid – in order to cause suffering to civilians, especially in winter,” the ministry added.
The meeting will also discuss affordable electricity and Nordic cooperation in the electricity market. Denmark’s Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, Lars Aagaard, will provide an introduction to competitiveness and cooperation, while Norway’s Minister of Energy, Terje Aasland, will address moderate energy prices.
Ahead of the ministerial, a seminar on Nordic energy security will take place on Sept. 30 in Helsinki, focusing on resilience and preparedness. The ministry said the seminar will examine “resilience of critical energy infrastructure, resilience in autonomous regions and islands, security of supply and security of gas supply in the Nordic countries.”
