ROME (Chatnewstv.com) — Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide on Tuesday condemned Russia’s large-scale airstrikes across multiple Ukrainian cities, calling the attacks a grim reminder of Moscow’s ongoing war aims as world leaders gather in Rome to support Ukraine’s reconstruction.
“I condemn the large-scale Russian airstrikes against multiple Ukrainian cities,” Eide said in a statement. “As the international community gathers in Rome in support of Ukraine’s reconstruction, Russia responds with one of its largest missile and drone attacks since the war began. The contrast is stark and underscores that Russia remains committed to its war aims.”
Eide said the international response must include stronger backing for Ukraine and renewed pressure on Moscow.
“Our response is stronger support for Ukraine and intensified pressure on Russia,” he said. “At the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome, Norway stands together with allies and partners to reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine.”
He described the attacks as part of a broader and alarming pattern targeting civilians.
“This attack is part of a troubling trend of intensified attacks against civilians,” Eide said. “Innocent lives are lost as rockets and drones rain down on Ukrainian cities, night after night. Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and all those fighting for freedom, peace, and the security of Europe.”
The coordinated missile and drone barrage marks one of the largest Russian assaults since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. It comes as leaders from across Europe and beyond convene in Rome for a summit aimed at charting Ukraine’s postwar recovery and reconstruction.
