Norway Welcomes Appointment of Nepal’s First Female Interim Prime Minister

OSLO, September 13, 2025 (Chatnewstv.com) — Norway on Saturday welcomed the appointment of Rt. Hon. Sushila Karki as Nepal’s first female prime minister, calling her interim leadership an important step toward stability after a week of turmoil in the country.

“The appointment of interim Prime Minister Karki is an important step to ensure stability following the tragic events in Nepal over the past week,” the Norwegian government said in a statement.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wish those injured a swift and full recovery.”

Karki, who previously served as chief justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court, was named interim leader to guide the transitional government until new elections are held.

“The appointment of interim leader Karki should contribute to a peaceful and inclusive transition towards democratic elections,” the statement said.

“Norway looks forward to working with the interim administration in the transition to the next phase of the country’s democratic governance and reiterates its commitment as a consistent partner of Nepal.”
