Kano, 26 May 2024 – The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has firmly denied accusations by the Kano State government that he facilitated the return of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to the state. These allegations were made by Kano State Deputy Governor Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who claimed that Ribadu provided two aircraft for Ado Bayero’s return to the city at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday.
In response to these claims, Zakari Mijinyawa, spokesperson for the NSA’s office, refuted the allegations. “I read the comments on social media; it is untrue. The NSA did not provide air transport to anyone to Kano,” Mijinyawa stated.
Mijinyawa emphasized the importance of responsible communication from political figures, warning that careless statements could undermine the efforts of security agencies working to maintain peace in the state. “Political actors should desist from misinforming the public as law enforcement officials in the state strive to maintain peace and order,” he urged.
The denial comes amidst heightened tensions in Kano, where the return of the dethroned Emir has stirred significant political and social unrest. The NSA’s office is calling for calm and urging politicians to be mindful of their words to avoid exacerbating the situation.
