ABUJA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — Nigerian business mogul Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has expressed deep concern over what he described as the country’s increasingly tense atmosphere, urging the Federal Government to pursue dialogue to defuse rising regional anxieties.
Cubana said the socio-political climate in Igbo land has been profoundly affected by the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He warned that stability and economic growth in the South-East remain fragile until Kanu’s case is meaningfully addressed.
“The region feels marginalized and frustrated,” he said, according to information gathered by DDM. “These issues are fueling unrest and uncertainty.”
He noted that Biafran agitation and its political undertones continue to shape public sentiment, saying calls for Kanu’s release are “not merely emotional appeals” but are rooted in broader concerns about fairness and justice.
Cubana urged the Federal Government to engage in “constructive dialogue” with relevant stakeholders to avert further crises.
Observers say his remarks underscore Kanu’s enduring influence in the national consciousness, particularly in the South-East. They point out that previous detentions and legal battles involving Kanu have triggered demonstrations and heightened tensions across the region.
Supporters of the IPOB leader argue that his continued detention has created divisions, stalled reconciliation efforts and deepened political polarization.
Cubana cautioned that ignoring these grievances could worsen discontent and destabilize communities already feeling politically and economically sidelined. He emphasized that peaceful engagement and respect for due process are essential to sustaining long-term stability.
Political analysts say prominent figures like Cubana play a critical role in amplifying issues that may otherwise be overlooked, noting that such interventions can pressure authorities to prioritize dialogue over confrontation in politically sensitive cases.
Cubana also said economic and social development in Igbo land depends on resolving grievances that fuel unrest. True progress, he argued, requires addressing citizens’ perceptions of justice, fairness and inclusion.
He called on community leaders and civil society groups to work toward nonviolent solutions and urged the Federal Government to consider the implications of prolonged detention on national unity and regional peace.
Many observers believe tackling the concerns surrounding Kanu’s imprisonment could pave the way for reconciliation and stability.
Cubana said Igbo land will continue to face social, political and economic challenges until meaningful steps are taken to address the underlying issues.
His remarks add to the growing national debate on civil liberties, separatist movements and the government’s approach to dissent, as Nigeria confronts a delicate balance between law enforcement, human rights and regional stability.
