ABEOKUTA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — The Ogun State government has partnered with tech firm Cybervilla to provide free vocational training in mobile phone and device repairs for young people across the state, officials announced Saturday.
Under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative, 50 youths will benefit from the first phase of the program, which aims to equip participants with technical skills, work tools, and employment opportunities in both the private sector and government.
Olayinka Ezema, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, said the initiative reflects Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to empowering youth through digital and vocational education.
“Governor Abiodun believes strongly in self-reliance and sees vocational training as key to unlocking opportunities in the digital economy,” Ezema said in a statement.
Chief Executive Officer of Cybervilla, Ifeanyi Adirika, described Ogun State as a springboard for innovation and a hub attractive to tech investors.
“We are here to support the Governor’s youth empowerment agenda,” Adirika said. “The selected participants will not only receive training and tools but will also be linked to job opportunities with the company and the state.”
One of the beneficiaries, Timilehin Ajisebutu, expressed gratitude to the state and Cybervilla on behalf of his peers.
“This is a rare opportunity,” he said. “We promise to make the most of it and hopefully become employers of labour ourselves.”
The initiative is part of Ogun State’s broader drive to create a digitally competent and economically self-sufficient youth population.
