ABEOKUTA, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — The Ogun State Government has suspended a teacher at Obada Grammar School following the death of an SS2 student, Master Monday Arijo, who allegedly died after being punished by the teacher.
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology ordered the teacher’s suspension and immediate arrest. The school principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, was also issued a formal query for permitting corporal punishment, which is against state policy. Onaolapo has 24 hours to explain her actions and justify why further disciplinary measures should not be imposed.
A statement from the Ministry expressed condolences to the Arijo family, with Permanent Secretary issuing a letter describing Monday as “an exceptional pupil who will be missed by his classmates, school, and the state.” The letter also expressed hope for justice and comfort for the grieving family, saying, “We pray for strength for his family and the peaceful repose of his soul.”
