ABUJA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigeria Police Force, demanding a public apology and ₦3.5 billion in damages following a raid earlier this month.
The August 9-10 operation, according to the library’s Managing Director, Vitalis Ortese, left more than 100 patrons injured, vehicles seized, and business activities severely disrupted.
“The acts were aggravated, oppressive, and actuated by malice… calculated to damage our legitimate business interests and reputation locally and internationally,” Ortese said.
The library said it recovered 12 expended AK-47 pellets and a beret allegedly belonging to the operatives during the raid. Some victims remain hospitalized, and others are prepared to testify in court.
Ortese accused the EFCC and police of orchestrating “deliberate and malicious damage” aimed at the institution and its founder, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria Dr. Olumide Ayeni noted that ballistic experts will determine the number of shots fired and alleged that operatives attempted to destroy evidence by seizing and damaging patrons’ phones.
The library said if its demands are not met within seven days, it will seek legal redress. It also called on Governor Dapo Abiodun, the National Security Adviser, and other authorities to prevent further “institutional lawlessness.”
