HELSINKI (Chatnewstv.com) — The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Troika on Friday condemned Russia’s latest wave of deadly missile strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, calling the attacks against civilians and infrastructure a potential war crime.
“Yesterday, Russia carried out one of its deadliest attacks on Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine since the war started,” said a joint statement by Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, Malta’s Foreign Minister Ian Borg and Switzerland’s Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis. “The overnight attacks targeted all Kyiv’s residential districts and caused the death of at least 23 civilians, including 4 children, and left many more injured.”
The officials said the strikes caused widespread destruction, including damage to the premises of the European Union delegation and the British Council in Kyiv.
“We condemn these strikes in the strongest possible terms,” the statement read. “Russia’s escalating attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in recent months further highlight the urgent need for an unconditional and comprehensive ceasefire.”
The Troika expressed support for efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to help bring an end to the war, but stressed that negotiations could only begin in the context of a ceasefire.
“Russia must be held accountable for its actions,” the statement said. “Indiscriminate attacks are prohibited under international humanitarian law; those directed against civilians may constitute war crimes.”
The officials reaffirmed their backing for Ukraine’s sovereignty and pledged support for efforts to secure the return of deported children, prisoner exchanges and the release of detained civilians, including three OSCE staff members.
