The future of Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen has sparked heated debates among fans, friends, and journalists as speculation over his next career move intensifies. Despite reports that Osimhen, currently the African Footballer of the Year, may be joining Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli, the Napoli striker has kept his supporters guessing.
Osimhen reportedly turned down a move to Chelsea FC and is said to be considering a lucrative four-year deal with Al-Ahli, which could earn his former club Napoli around £67.3 million (€80 million) plus add-ons. This follows a previous rejection of a €70 million offer from the Saudi club, with his agent, Roberto Calenda, suggesting that Osimhen still has unfinished business in European football.
The uncertainty surrounding Osimhen’s decision has led to conflicting reports and opinions, especially on social media. Nigerian journalist Oma Akatugba claimed that Osimhen was leaning towards a move to Chelsea, with an agreement for a weekly wage of €350,000. However, Osimhen’s friends and other sources have disputed this, calling the claims false and accusing Akatugba of spreading misinformation.
The debate has escalated, with friends of Osimhen arguing that such detailed contract discussions in public could harm the player’s reputation and future negotiations. They suggest that private matters should be handled discreetly, as is common in the football world.
Despite the controversy, Akatugba stood by his story, asserting that Osimhen chose the Saudi move for the higher pay after Chelsea couldn’t meet his wage demands. The ongoing saga reflects the complex and often contentious nature of football transfers, where personal relationships, media speculation, and financial considerations intersect.
