OSOGBO, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke officially announced Tuesday his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, confirming months of speculation and creating a major political realignment in the state.
In an evening announcement, Adeleke confirmed the shift, which he attributed to unresolved turmoil within the PDP’s national leadership.
According to a resignation letter dated Nov. 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde in Ede North LGA, Adeleke stated his immediate withdrawal from the party.
“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership with immediate effect,” the governor wrote.
Adeleke, who had previously served as a Senator for Osun West and was elected governor under the PDP banner, acknowledged the role the party played in his political career.
“I thank the party for the opportunities given to me as Senator and Governor,” he added.
Following his formal resignation, the governor declared the Accord Party as his new political home, aligning with earlier reports of consultations with key allies and stakeholders regarding the move.
Adeleke’s defection is expected to significantly influence party structures, alliances, and voter sentiment in Osun State as the 2026 election cycle approaches.
