ABUJA, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, alongside two other key officials.
The suspensions, announced on Friday by the party’s National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, also affected the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade. According to Nnorom, the NWC reached the decision during its 593rd meeting on Thursday, pending an investigation into allegations leveled against the officials.
“The NWC has directed that Ologunagba and Ajibade step aside while the issues raised are investigated,” Nnorom said in the statement, adding that a committee chaired by Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja has been formed to look into the matter.
In a dramatic twist, Ologunagba, in a separate statement, also announced the suspension of Damagum and Anyanwu.
The faction cited anti-party activities, particularly a controversial letter addressed to the Court of Appeal regarding a case involving 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The NWC condemned this anti-party activity of the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary, which is in gross violatio
