Peter Obi Raises Alarm Over Threats To Life

LAGOS, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — Peter Obi, a prominent Nigerian political figure and former Labour party presidential candidate, has revealed receiving threats to his life and family following his New Year message, which he says sparked backlash and accusations of “crossing the line.”

Obi disclosed the threats in a tweet on Monday, pointing to a statement by Felix Morka, whom he accused of warning him about unspecified consequences.

“Have I really crossed the line?” Obi wrote. “I ask the question because my New Year message has now led to threats against my life, my family, and those around me.”

The former governor of Anambra State shared a video of his New Year message, encouraging those who had not seen it to review it.

“If I have truly crossed the line, I invite anyone to point it out, as I remain committed to upholding decorum,” he said. “However, I will not be silenced in my resolve to speak truthfully, especially as our nation continues to drift toward undemocratic practices.”

Obi expressed concern over what he described as a growing wave of repression in Nigeria.

“We are increasingly transforming into an authoritarian and repressive regime, where freedom of expression is being systematically suppressed,” he said.

The politician called for collective efforts to safeguard democracy and ensure a freer society for future generations.

“May God help us create a better and freer society for the sake of our children,” Obi concluded.

Felix Morka, who is reportedly associated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has not responded to Obi’s claims at the time of reporting.
