Police have conducted large-scale checks in the Ulm area in the south-western German state of Baden-Württemberg following calls on social networks for a meeting of car enthusiasts.
There were several rear-end collisions in the state of Bavaria during the night, resulting in three injuries, after participants in the event diverted there, a police spokesman said on Sunday.
The forces in Baden-Württemberg, together with the city of Ulm, checked around 300 vehicles and 500 people from Saturday evening. A helicopter was also deployed.
The officers identified numerous violations: About 20 drivers are facing charges for administrative offences, with vehicles being decommissioned in six cases due to technical defects.
Additionally, around 30 drivers must pay a compulsory fine for violating the municipal general ordinance and gathering unlawfully in the city area.
During the day, the meeting shifted to Bavaria. According to the police, around 1,000 participants of the event gathered in car parks in the towns of Memmingen and Altenstadt, among other places. The police dispersed the gatherings.
As part of the spot checks, the officers reportedly secured several vehicles and issued numerous penalty notices.
On the way to a meeting point in Altenstadt, there were several rear-end collisions caused by scene members. Several vehicles were damaged on the A7 motorway, and three people were slightly injured, the police said.
The operation lasted until the early morning hours.
