Munich – Police intervened in a counter-protest to a far-right vigil held near the scene of a fatal car-ramming attack in the southern German city of Munich on Sunday.
Footage showed officers using force on a number of people. The incident was confirmed by eyewitnesses, but police could not initially say whether arrests had been made.
The far-right and anti-immigrant AfD mounted a vigil at the Königsplatz square in the centre of the city, attended by some 70 people, according to the police estimate.
Police intervened as demonstrators opposed to exploiting Thursday’s attack for political purposes held a counter-protest attended by around 600.
Around 40 from this group formed a human chain to prevent AfD supporters from laying flowers at the site of the attack on nearby Seidlstrasse, according to police.
