Political Wrangling May Hamper Investors’ Confidence — Group

The tussle for political supremacy between Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers state and his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chief Nyesom Wike may hamper investors’ confidence, says group.

Amidst the heightened political feud in the state, concerned analysts, elder statesmen and professional bodies had initiated some interventions which have failed to bring about peace between parties.

One of such interventions was initiated by the ‘Coalition of Rivers Leaders of Thoughts’ (CORSLOT), a non-partisan opinion group in the state.

Concerned about possible economic and law breakdown following the unresolved crises, CORSLOT feared that the prolonged wrangling may hamper investors confidence if not addressed.

They also called on Gov. Fubara and his predecessor Wike to embrace peace so as to restore confidence to the state

According to them, investors may stop to see the state as a safe business hub if ongoing political toxicity is not contained.

CORSLOT, while briefing newsmen on Thursday in Port Harcourt the Rivers state capital lamented the possible state of anarchy if the crisis continues to gain momentum.

In an eight point communiqué, the group noted that it will continue to appeal to parties with a view to initiating sustainable peace in the state.

The communique which was co-signed by the group’s leader Chief Sunnie Chukumele, Prof. Reginah Azuwena, Mrs. Odinaka Osundu, Mr. George Ijoma and Elder Anuage Menegbo read in part:  “We would at this juncture admonish our son, the former governor and Minister of FCT, Chief Nysom Wike to have a rethink on the political imbroglio in Rivers, as it is only him in our thinking and that of most watchers that can quell the storm.

“CORSLOT wishes to advise trouble entrepreneurs and eye service politicians of the state to take note that power belongs to God and the people and Rivers people are noting the action of these actors and self seeking politicians”
