Port Harcourt Refinery Begins Operations, 200 Trucks Set to Load Daily, Says Presidency

ABUJA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — The Port Harcourt Refinery has officially begun operations, with around 200 trucks expected to load petroleum products daily, the Nigerian Presidency announced on Tuesday. This marks a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to boost domestic fuel production.

The announcement was made by Presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, following the Nigerian National Petroleum Company’s (NNPC) confirmation that the refinery had started processing crude oil.

“200 trucks are expected to load products daily from the refinery, renewing the hopes of Nigeria,” said Dare, highlighting the potential impact on the country’s fuel supply and energy sector.

The Port Harcourt Refinery, a government-owned facility, consists of two operational units. Dare noted that “the Old Refinery comes on stream today with an installed production capacity of 60,000 barrels per day of crude oil.” This development is seen as a crucial move to increase the availability of refined petroleum products and reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imports.
