RIO DE JANEIRO (ChatnewsTV) — Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the 2024 Heads of State and Government Summit of the Group of 20 (G20). The summit, which runs from today through Tuesday, focuses on the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” with discussions centered on sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental dimensions, as well as global governance reforms.
Tinubu arrived in the early hours of Monday, around 3 a.m. Nigerian time, where he was received by Amb. Breno Costa of Brazil’s Ministry of External Relations. The President is accompanied by key officials, including Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; and Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture and Creativity. Also joining the delegation is Amb. Mohammed Mohammed, Director General of the National Intelligence Agency.
During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to engage in bilateral meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms and strengthening international partnerships.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who has held the rotating G20 presidency since December 2023, is hosting the summit. The event marks the conclusion of his tenure on November 30. Nigeria, represented by President Tinubu, was invited to the summit alongside other countries and regional bodies, including the African Union and the European Union.
The G20 summit will feature 19 member countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UK, and the US, among others.
