In a significant development on Thursday, President Bola Tinubu engaged in a crucial meeting with the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, in the capital city of Abuja. The meeting took place at the State House, Presidential Villa, and was attended by security chiefs from across the nation.
During the meeting, President Tinubu was presented with a comprehensive report and strategic blueprint by the members of the national conference committee tasked with addressing issues related to livestock reforms and the mitigation of associated conflicts in Nigeria.
This initiative can be traced back to the efforts of the immediate-past Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, who, back in January, initiated a high-powered committee. The primary goal of this committee was to organize a national conference aimed at thoroughly examining the multifaceted challenges surrounding the livestock sector, including the imperative need for reforms and measures to alleviate conflicts.
Championing this cause was a distinguished 27-member conference committee, led by the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega. Their mission was to propose a sustainable resolution to the persisting herder-farmer conflicts that have plagued various regions of the country.
