Atalanta’s hopes of advancing in the UEFA Champions League took a hit on Tuesday as they lost 3-2 to defending champions Real Madrid.
Ademola Lookman scored a brilliant goal for the Italian side, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the star power of Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., and Jude Bellingham.
Real Madrid struck first through Mbappe’s controlled finish in the 10th minute, but Charles De Ketelaere’s penalty just before halftime leveled the score. The Spanish team came out strong in the second half, with Vinicius Jr. and Bellingham scoring goals in the 56th and 59th minutes, respectively.
Lookman’s goal in the 72nd minute gave Atalanta a glimmer of hope, but ultimately, Real Madrid’s experience and skill proved too much for the Italian side.
The win moves Real Madrid up to 18th on the log with nine points from six matches, while Atalanta sits in ninth place with 11 points.
