PARIS (CHATNEWSTV) — Renault has revealed the updated version of its Austral SUV, featuring a modernized design, greater comfort, and a refined full hybrid E-Tech 200 ch powertrain, as part of its continued push in the competitive C-segment market.
In a statement released on Monday by Renault, the French automaker said more than 200,000 units of the Austral have been sold since its launch in 2022. The facelifted model now aligns with the brand’s new design language, showcasing a redesigned front and rear, a new lighting signature, and styling cues similar to those seen on the Rafale and new Espace models.
“The New Renault Austral has a key role to play in our C-segment offensive,” said Bruno Vanel, Vice President of Product Performance at Renault. “Unique on the market, it is a compact car that thinks big. Exceptionally spacious with its sliding rear seat, it ships with the highly efficient full hybrid E-Tech 200 ch powertrain, as well as onboard equipment rivalling higher market segments.”
Available in three trims — Evolution, Techno, and Esprit Alpine — the Austral is manufactured at Renault’s Palencia plant in Spain and will be available across several European countries before summer.
Designed to boost both performance and comfort, the updated Austral includes features like an automatic driver recognition system for personalized welcome settings, new ergonomic front seats, and improved noise and vibration insulation. Rear seat passengers also benefit from a sliding and reclining bench, allowing for expanded cargo space of up to 1,736 liters.
Renault said that 80% of current Austral buyers have chosen the E-Tech 200 ch full hybrid system, while 44% opt for the top-tier Esprit Alpine trim. The vehicle also introduces improvements to gear shifting and acceleration, while maintaining its hallmark efficiency with a clutchless, multi-mode automatic transmission.
In markets outside France, a 160 ch mild hybrid version with automatic transmission will also be available.
The SUV’s chassis sees further refinement with new shock absorbers and larger tires for improved handling, while high-end features like 4Control Advanced four-wheel steering, Multi-Sense drive modes, and 32 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) offer a level of safety and sophistication uncommon in its class.
Inside, the Austral adopts upscale materials and tech integration, including the OpenR Link infotainment system powered by Google. The brand says this system introduces more responsive apps and personalized driving profiles, bringing a premium digital experience to the mainstream market.
“Ultra-versatile and even more desirable with its contemporary looks, New Renault Austral has all the qualities to reach even more buyers,” Vanel said.
The updated Austral marks Renault’s continued momentum under its Renaulution strategy, aiming to consolidate its hybrid offerings in both the C and D segments and compete with premium compact SUV rivals across Europe.
