In the face of increasing hunger and hardship across the nation, residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have reportedly raided a warehouse belonging to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Karimo, Abuja. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, saw the looters making away with foodstuffs and various items.
Our correspondent reports that the looters targeted foodstuffs and other items in a desperate bid to alleviate the effects of the current hardship, which they believe the administration of President Bola Tinubu is doing little to address.
The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident. She assured that the situation is now under control. “We have been informed of the incident and our officers have been deployed to the area to disperse the looters and secure the facility,” Adeh said.
At the time of filing this report, operatives from the Nigeria Police Force were on the scene to restore order and secure the facility. The police are expected to carry out further investigations into the incident.
