WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday that the United States is committed to ending the war, according to a readout from the State Department late Thursday.
“The United States wants this war to end,” Rubio said, as relayed by State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce. “President Trump and the United States have presented to all parties the outlines of a durable and lasting peace.”
The secretary’s remarks echoed the message the U.S. delegation shared earlier this week with Ukrainian officials and European allies in Paris.
Bruce said the initial reception to the U.S. proposal in Paris was “encouraging,” and emphasized that “peace is possible if all parties commit to reaching an agreement.”
The contents of the U.S. framework were not disclosed, but the call signals a coordinated diplomatic push by Washington to advance a negotiated settlement.
