WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a call Tuesday with Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi to strengthen bilateral relations and address regional security concerns, according to a State Department readout.
During the introductory conversation, Secretary Rubio condemned the recent assault on Goma by the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to the sovereignty of the DRC.
Rubio and Tshisekedi emphasized the need to advance the Luanda Process, an initiative led by Angolan President João Lourenço to mediate peace between the DRC and Rwanda. Both leaders expressed support for restarting talks aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in the region.
