KYIV, Ukraine (CHATNEWSTV) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday accused Russia of prolonging the war despite ceasefire proposals, saying Moscow “stole almost another week of war that only Russia wants.”
His remarks followed talks in Jeddah and an American proposal for a ceasefire on the frontline.
“We will do everything to further intensify diplomacy. We will do everything to make diplomacy effective,” Zelenskyy said in his nightly address. “But every day now is about defending our independence, our state, and our people.”
The Ukrainian leader announced personnel changes within the Armed Forces, appointing battle-hardened General Andriy Hnatov as the new Chief of the General Staff. Zelenskyy said Hnatov’s primary task will be to implement combat experience in operational planning and accelerate the development of Ukraine’s corps system.
Fighting continues along nearly the entire front line, from Kharkiv to the south, according to the latest battlefield reports from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Zelenskyy also thanked Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for supporting Ukraine and discussed further sanctions against Russia, including targeting its tanker fleet and financial networks.
“Canada will continue to support Ukraine, and this is important,” he said, adding that Ukraine continues to receive “new signals of support” from international partners.
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov also reported progress on securing air defense missiles and artillery contracts ahead of the next “Ramstein” defense meeting in Brussels.
Ukraine is also working on concrete security guarantees, with military talks held in France and upcoming meetings in the UK.
“I am grateful to everyone who stands with Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
