WARSAW, Poland (Chatnewstv.com) — The foreign ministers of France, Germany, and Poland on Monday strongly condemned recent “reckless, hostile acts” by Russia, including the violation of Polish, Romanian, and Estonian airspace, calling the breaches an “unacceptable escalation” that threatens European stability.
The joint statement, issued by the so-called Weimar Triangle nations following a meeting, reaffirms the countries’ “unity and unwavering determination to defend European peace, security and common fundamental values against Russia’s ongoing war of aggression.”
“The recent violation of Polish, Romanian and Estonian airspace were reckless, hostile acts and unacceptable escalation that threatens regional and European stability,” the ministers stated.
“We condemn these provocations and call on the Russian Federation to cease such actions, immediately end its war of aggression against Ukraine, and enter peace negotiations on terms agreed with Kyiv.”
France and Germany offered immediate solidarity with Poland, along with Estonia and Romania, and pledged to intensify efforts to reinforce European and Euro-Atlantic security.
Air Defense and Russian Assets
The statement placed a “particular focus on protecting our air space and strengthening our air and missile defense capabilities,” including significant investment in critical, European-developed capabilities.
In response to “Russia’s massive airstrikes” on Ukraine, the Weimar partners committed to continuing to provide air defense assets to Kyiv.
“Russian hostile incursions will not intimidate us. They only strengthen our resolve,” the ministers wrote. “Until it is achieved, we will continue our military, humanitarian and financial support for Ukraine as a member of the European family and a victim of Moscow’s imperial ambitions.”
The ministers also vowed to increase pressure on Russia through sanctions, specifically by targeting Russia’s “shadow fleet” that is used to undermine existing measures and finance the war, and which they say poses “grave environmental and maritime safety risks, especially in the Baltic Sea.”
They called for the nineteenth sanctions package to be swiftly adopted, to include measures against major Russian oil companies and an embargo on Russian liquefied natural gas.
Furthermore, the statement backed leveraging immobilized Russian Sovereign Assets to support Ukraine’s military needs.
“The aggressor – not the victim – must bear full responsibility, including financial responsibility, for this war,” they asserted.
EU Enlargement and Middle East
The Weimar Triangle reiterated strong support for the European Union accession paths of Ukraine and Moldova, calling Ukraine’s potential membership a “matter of strategic importance” for its society and the continent’s security. They pledged to intensify efforts to ensure the next steps in Ukraine’s accession process are taken swiftly.
The foreign ministers also expressed grave concern over the situation in the Middle East, reiterating the “urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, the unconditional release of all remaining hostages, and the unimpeded entry of humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza.”
They called for an “immediate halt to Israeli military operations in Gaza City” due to the mass civilian displacement and casualties. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a negotiated Two-State solution and urged Israel to “cease all settlement activities,” including the “E1” project.
In conclusion, the ministers pledged to continue coordinating closely within the EU, NATO, and beyond, stating that “Russian disinformation campaigns are designed to amplify military aggression by sowing confusion and division. They will fail.”
