ABUJA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday confirmed former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), as the country’s new Minister of Defence following an extensive five-hour screening.
During the session, Gen. Musa presented his strategy for stabilizing Nigeria’s security landscape, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration among the military, police, intelligence agencies, and local communities.
He warned lawmakers that terrorists view Nigeria as a lucrative target because they believe the country is wealthy and vulnerable to exploitation.
Gen. Musa vowed to block operational gaps, enhance accountability in defense spending, and deepen cooperation with neighboring nations to counter cross-border terrorism and organized crime.
He stressed that the military alone cannot secure the nation, advocating for what he termed a “whole-of-government approach.”
According to him, the armed forces contribute only “20 to 25 percent” of the solution, arguing that governance, intelligence, and community trust play a significantly larger role in achieving security.
Senators unanimously endorsed his nomination, praising his extensive experience and the clarity of his security vision.
Once sworn in, Gen. Musa will assume full control of Nigeria’s defense portfolio at a time of escalating terrorism, banditry, and a nationwide kidnapping crisis.
