21 May 2024, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State – In a devastating incident, over seven students from Niger Delta University (NDU) in Amassoma have lost their lives after inhaling fumes from a generator inside a music studio. The tragic event occurred on Transformer Road, Ebis, in the Amarata area of Yenagoa, the state capital.
The victims were working in the recording studio owned by one of them, identified as Akpos Barakubo, when the incident happened early Tuesday morning. Due to the unreliable power supply in the state, the studio crew had been working late into the night using a generator.
According to reports, the students fell asleep with the generator running inside the studio and forgot to switch it off. This oversight led to the fatal buildup of fumes.
Six bodies were discovered on Tuesday morning, while one individual, found unconscious and rushed to the hospital, later succumbed to the effects of the fumes.
Currently, security operatives have cordoned off the area. The victims’ bodies have been evacuated and taken to a morgue in Yenagoa by police officials.
