MUNICH (Chatnewstv.com) — Jens Stoltenberg will take over as chairman of the influential Munich Security Conference (MSC) after his current public duties in the Norwegian government conclude, the organization announced in a statement Monday.
The current long-serving chairman, Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, will continue to lead the prominent global security forum until Stoltenberg is available. No specific timeline for the transition was provided.
To prepare for the role, Stoltenberg will join the MSC Foundation Council in November 2025.
“I am thrilled that Jens Stoltenberg remains fully committed to joining the MSC Team and will assume the role of Conference Chair once his public duties in Norway have come to an end,” said Ischinger, who also serves as President of the MSC Foundation Council.
Stoltenberg, the former Secretary General of NATO, acknowledged his timeline for taking the helm was delayed by a call to public service in his home country.
“I want to thank Wolfgang Ischinger and the members of the MSC Foundation Council for their continued support and patience,” Stoltenberg said in the statement. “Everybody knows that I had to change my plan to join the MSC earlier this year when Prime Minister Støre asked me to join his government.”
He affirmed his dedication to the future role, stating, “My commitment to chairing the MSC remains unchanged. I am looking forward to joining the MSC Foundation Council now and to assuming the role as Chair once my public service in Norway has ended.”
