Two members of a movie production crew have reportedly died of suspected food poisoning in Imo state.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Friday in the area of Works Layout by Nwaosu Street in Owerri, the state capital, where members of the Nigeria Actors Guild were filming a movie.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the group was served food and drinks during the shoot. Shortly after consuming the meal, two members, Monday Israel and Evans Sampson, collapsed.
They were rushed to Federal Medical Center in the state capital but were both confirmed dead on arrival.
The bodies were deposited in the mortuary for autopsy, while other two affected individuals were undergoing treatment.
Some suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, and an investigation is ongoing.
Conac Umez, former AGN chairman of Imo state chapter, confirmed the incident, noting that two men died after filming.
He said, “From what I heard, they had a short merriment at the producer’s house after filming for the day.”
“They took a Calypso drink offered to them by the producer.”
“But when they retired to their hotel room, two of them started vomiting and died in the process. The other two were unconscious and rushed to a hospital. They are responding to treatment.”
“They also said the producer drank the same drink with them.”
