Kano, Nigeria — Armed policemen and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) have reportedly surrounded the Kano Emir’s Palace at Kofar Kudu, effectively barring entry and exit from the historic structure.
The heightened security presence comes ahead of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s scheduled visit to escort the newly-appointed Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to his district posting in Bichi.
Reports also indicate that the Bichi Palace, the destination of the newly-appointed Wamban Kano, is similarly under heavy security lockdown, with armed policemen stationed around the premises.
The reason for the heavy security deployment remains unclear at the time of reporting, but the situation has sparked curiosity and concern among residents and observers.
