VATICAN CITY (CHATNEWSTV) — Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, was momentarily blocked by Vatican security officials during Sunday’s inauguration of Pope Leo XIV.
The younger Tinubu, who was part of the president’s official entourage, was seen in a viral video attempting to move closer to his father as the president greeted the Pope. A plainclothes security officer calmly redirected him, preventing him from getting too close to the interaction.
President Tinubu, who was dressed in a black suit, was exchanging pleasantries with the Pontiff when the incident occurred. Seyi, also clad in a dark suit, approached but was subtly intercepted by the officer.
The moment, though brief, became one of the more discussed highlights of the Nigerian delegation’s visit to the Vatican. While official details of the event focused on diplomatic engagements, the video has sparked varied reactions online.
The encounter came on the sidelines of President Tinubu’s meeting with political rival Peter Obi, who also attended the ceremony. Obi, who came third in Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, defeated Tinubu in Lagos — a longtime stronghold of the president and his ruling party.
The visit marks Tinubu’s first major appearance at the Vatican since assuming office.
Watch the Video as released by Nigerian state house staff, who will soon be sacked.
