ABUJA, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — President Bola Tinubu on Friday called for calm and sportsmanship among stakeholders in the upcoming Edo governorship election, urging all parties to respect the democratic process and the will of the people.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu stressed the importance of civility, tolerance, and adherence to election rules in the election, which is set for Sept. 21.
“President Tinubu emphasises that democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game,” Onanuga said in the statement.
The President praised the candidates and political parties for their campaigns, which he said had addressed critical issues affecting Edo’s citizens, such as economic growth, improved livelihoods, and national development.
As voters prepare to cast their ballots, Tinubu urged them to remain peaceful and resolve disputes through proper channels. He also expressed confidence in the professionalism of security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), encouraging both to remain impartial throughout the process.
“President Tinubu expresses unwavering confidence in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials. He urges them to avoid any actions that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process,” the statement added.
The election will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21.
