BERLIN (ChatnewsTV) — Michael Link, Germany’s Coordinator of Transatlantic Cooperation in the Field of Intersocietal Relations, Cultural, and Information Policy, has announced his resignation, effective at the end of November 2024.
In a statement released by German foreign office on Friday, Minister of State Tobias Lindner will step into the role starting December 1, 2024.
“Cooperation between Germany and the United States is more important than ever,” said Lindner on Friday, following the announcement.
“Particularly in turbulent geopolitical times, we need to act in concert. Together with the next U.S. administration, we want to continue working for peace, stability, prosperity, and freedom in the world.”
Lindner emphasized that the German-American relationship extends beyond official government channels, highlighting the importance of connections between scientists, students, and business leaders on both sides of the Atlantic.
“It is the people who are the building blocks of our bridge across the Atlantic,” he added.
Lindner has been involved in North American relations since 2021 in his capacity as Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office. He also previously served as Deputy Chair of the German-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group and was a member of the German-American Parliamentary Friendship Group from 2013 to 2021.
With his new responsibilities, Lindner aims to deepen Germany’s relationship with the U.S. and Canada, particularly as the country prepares to engage with the upcoming U.S. administration.
“I look forward to continuing the dialogue at all levels with civil society and with the new administration,” he said.
