WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to declassify long-classified documents related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., the White House announced Thursday.
Margo Martin, Special Assistant to the President and Communications Advisor, shared the news on X, formerly Twitter. “President @realDonaldTrump signs an Executive Order to declassify the JFK, RFK, and MLK Jr. files!” Martin wrote in a post that quickly garnered widespread attention.
The decision is being hailed by transparency advocates as a major step toward shedding light on pivotal moments in American history. “The American people deserve to know the truth,” Trump said in a statement.
Critics, however, caution that the release could spark new conspiracy theories or jeopardize ongoing national security interests. The timeline for full public access to the files has yet to be clarified.
