WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order directing the construction of an “Iron Dome” missile defense shield for the United States, aiming to bolster protection against next-generation aerial threats.
“The threat of attack by ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles remains a catastrophic threat facing the United States,” the White House said in a statement. “This executive order accelerates the development and deployment of critical defense technologies to stay ahead of emerging threats.”
The initiative will include space-based interceptors, hypersonic tracking sensors, and advanced missile defense systems designed to counter ballistic and hypersonic missiles, as well as other airborne threats. The order also mandates securing supply chains for all components of the system.
Trump, who had pledged such a defense during his campaign, said the new system would serve as a deterrent.
“I will direct our military to begin construction of the great Iron Dome missile defense shield, which will be made all in the USA,” Trump said.
The executive order also calls for a review of U.S. theater missile defense posture to better protect troops stationed abroad, while increasing cooperation with allies on missile defense technology.
The move comes as global adversaries continue to develop sophisticated weapons systems, with the White House stating that “rather than lessening, the threat has only become more complex over the past 40 years.”
By establishing a next-generation defense shield, Trump’s administration argues it is reinforcing a strategy of “peace through strength”—a doctrine the president has repeatedly emphasized throughout his tenure.
