WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — President Donald Trump ordered U.S. airstrikes against ISIS-Somalia operatives in the Golis Mountains on Saturday, marking a continued push against terrorist networks in the region, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said.
“At President Trump’s direction and in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, I authorized U.S. Africa Command to conduct coordinated airstrikes today targeting ISIS-Somalia operatives,” Hegseth said in a statement.
The Pentagon’s initial assessment indicated that multiple ISIS operatives were killed, with no civilian casualties reported.
“This action further degrades ISIS’s ability to plot and conduct terrorist attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians,” Hegseth said. “It sends a clear signal that the United States always stands ready to find and eliminate terrorists who threaten the United States and our allies.”
The strikes come as the U.S. military maintains counterterrorism operations in Somalia while carrying out broader national security initiatives under Trump’s leadership.
