WASHINGTON — The United States extended warm wishes to Tanzania on Saturday, marking the 61st anniversary of the creation of the United Republic of Tanzania, and pledged to deepen economic and security cooperation in the coming year.
In a statement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Tanzania’s leadership role in East Africa and reaffirmed U.S. commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I extend warm wishes to President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Tanzanian people on the 61st anniversary of the creation of the United Republic of Tanzania,” Rubio said.
He noted that the partnership between the United States and Tanzania is “rooted in our shared desire for prosperity and security.”
“In the coming year, we look forward to strengthening our collaboration on trade and investment for the mutual benefit of both the American and Tanzanian people,” Rubio added.
The statement also highlighted Tanzania’s growing regional influence and the countries’ shared goals of building “a more peaceful and prosperous world together.”
Union Day, celebrated annually on April 26, commemorates the 1964 unification of Tanganyika and Zanzibar into the United Republic of Tanzania.
