WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday congratulated the people of Togo and Sierra Leone on the anniversaries of their independence, pledging continued partnership with both West African nations.
In a statement marking Togo’s 65th Independence Day, Rubio praised the country’s progress and reaffirmed U.S. support.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I extend a warm congratulations to the people of Togo on the 65th year of your independence,” Rubio said. “We proudly reaffirm our continued partnership and friendship with the people and Government of Togo.”
Rubio said he looked forward to “broadening our collaboration on a wide range of initiatives that further security and prosperity for both our nations.”
Similarly, in a separate message to mark Sierra Leone’s National Day, Rubio offered best wishes and highlighted shared values between the two countries.
“As we celebrate this significant day, we reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the values that unite our nations,” he said. “The United States appreciates the strong partnership we share with Sierra Leone, and we look forward to continuing to work together in promoting security and prosperity for our citizens.”
Rubio, a former U.S. senator who assumed the top diplomatic post earlier this year, has emphasized deepening American ties with African nations as part of a broader strategic agenda.
