U.S. Expresses Concern Over Chinese Military Drills in Taiwan Strait, Urges Restraint

WASHINGTON (ChatnewsTV) — The United States has voiced serious concern over China’s recent military exercises in the Taiwan Strait, labeling the joint drills conducted by the People’s Liberation Army as provocative and unnecessary.

According to a press statement released on Sunday by the state department, the maneuvers, which took place around Taiwan, have been described by U.S. officials as a disproportionate response to a routine annual speech, heightening tensions in the region.

“We are deeply concerned by the People’s Republic of China’s decision to engage in military provocations,” a U.S. State Department spokesperson said in a statement. “This response to a routine event is unwarranted and risks escalating tensions further.”

The U.S. called on China to exercise caution, warning that such actions threaten to destabilize the region. “We urge the PRC to act with restraint and avoid any further actions that may undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and in the broader region,” the spokesperson added. “The security and stability of the Taiwan Strait is critical to regional peace and prosperity and remains a matter of international concern.”

U.S. officials confirmed they are closely monitoring Chinese activities and maintaining coordination with regional allies and partners to address shared concerns about potential threats to peace.

Despite the rising tensions, the United States reaffirmed its commitment to its long-standing “One China” policy, which is guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the three U.S.-China Joint Communiqués, and the Six Assurances. This policy underscores Washington’s strategic stance of opposing any unilateral changes to the status quo across the Taiwan Strait.

“We remain fully committed to the Taiwan Relations Act and to supporting peace and stability in the region,” the spokesperson concluded.
