WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday extended congratulations to President John Mahama and the people of Ghana as they marked their National Day, emphasizing the strong ties between the two nations.
“The U.S. partnership with Ghana – rooted in our shared desire for freedom, democracy, economic prosperity, and security – is stronger today than ever before,” Rubio said in a statement.
He commended Ghana’s leadership in West Africa and across the continent, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and security ties with Accra.
“The United States looks forward to deepening our many ties with the Ghanaian people and new government in the year ahead,” Rubio said.
Ghana’s National Day commemorates the country’s independence from British rule in 1957, making it the first sub-Saharan African nation to gain independence.
