WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday congratulated Zimbabwe on its 45th anniversary of independence, praising the country’s people and expressing hope for stronger bilateral ties.
“The United States recognizes the spirit and strength of the Zimbabwean people on this commemoration of your fight for freedom,” Rubio said in a statement marking Zimbabwe’s National Day.
Rubio said Washington looks forward to expanding business and commercial relations with Harare, “supported by our countries’ democratic institutions.”
“Through rule of law and respect for our fundamental freedoms, we can create better opportunities for our peoples to prosper,” he said.
The secretary extended best wishes to the people of Zimbabwe, saying, “We wish all Zimbabweans a very happy Independence Day.”
