WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — The United States is revoking all visas held by South Sudanese nationals and halting future issuances in response to the African nation’s refusal to accept deported citizens, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Saturday.
“It is time for the Transitional Government of South Sudan to stop taking advantage of the United States,” Rubio said in a statement. “Enforcing our nation’s immigration laws is critically important to the national security and public safety of the United States.”
The action, effective immediately, comes as South Sudan continues to block or delay the repatriation of its nationals ordered removed from the U.S. Rubio said the travel restrictions will remain in place until South Sudan fully cooperates.
“We will be prepared to review these actions when South Sudan is in full cooperation,” he said.
