WASHINGTON (Chatnewstv.com) — The United States on Wednesday sanctioned a Chinese chemical company and two of its executives for allegedly manufacturing and coordinating shipments of illicit opioids that fuel America’s deadly fentanyl crisis.
Guangzhou Tengyue Chemical Co., Ltd., along with representatives Huang Xiaojun and Huang Zhanpeng, were targeted for their role in sending synthetic opioids and chemical agents into the U.S. market, according to the State Department.
“Overdoses from synthetic opioids like fentanyl are the leading killer of young Americans from 18 to 45,” said Thomas “Tommy” Pigott, the State Department’s principal deputy spokesperson. “China plays a central role in this crisis, not merely by failing to stem the ultimate source of many illicit drugs distributed in the United States, but by actively sustaining and expanding the business of poisoning our citizens.”
The Treasury Department’s sanctions will freeze any U.S.-based assets linked to the company or individuals and bar Americans from conducting business with them.
Pigott said the measures underscore the Trump administration’s vow to confront synthetic drug networks that threaten U.S. communities.
“Today’s action reflects the administration’s commitment to make America safe again by deploying the law enforcement and diplomatic tools necessary to end the deadly scourge of synthetic narcotics and ensure companies like Guangzhou Tengyue and their representatives are held accountable,” he said.
