LONDON (Chatnewstv.com) — British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday hosted Kenyan President William Ruto at 10 Downing Street, where the two leaders launched a new UK-Kenya Strategic Partnership aimed at boosting economic ties and strengthening regional security.
The bilateral meeting marked one of Starmer’s first major diplomatic engagements since taking office. The leaders praised the partnership as a “new chapter” in relations between the United Kingdom and Kenya.
On migration, Starmer and Ruto welcomed a new UK-Kenya security agreement focused on disrupting organized immigration crime and human trafficking networks in Kenya — a move aimed at stemming onward migration to Europe.
The two also discussed major trade and infrastructure initiatives, including Kenya’s Nairobi Railway City project, modeled after London’s King’s Cross redevelopment. The project is expected to create opportunities for UK businesses and contribute to Starmer’s domestic economic agenda, dubbed the Plan for Change.
Both leaders affirmed their commitment to regional peace and stability, underscoring shared interests in promoting security and development across East Africa.
The visit reflects a growing push by the UK to deepen partnerships with African nations as it reshapes its global trade and foreign policy post-Brexit.
