UNIZIK Expels Female Student Who Assaulted Lecturer

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has expelled Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious who assaulted a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye.

The school announced its decision in an official expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025 and signed by its Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor I. Modebelu.

A recent viral video showed the 300-level student in the Department of History and International Studies recording a TikTok video in the corridor of Faculty of Arts.

The lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies who wanted to pass by had tapped her on the shoulder, saying “ Excuse me”.

The student disgusted by his interruption of her video, grumbled and complained to her friend.

Dr. Okoye upon hearing her and noticing he appeared in the TikTok video, went back and requested that she delete the video.

The student refused and he attempted to seize her phone so she could comply, but she grabbed his clothes and allegedly bit him on the wrist and arm.

The university noted that the decision followed recommendation of the Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC), which found Precious guilty of gross misconduct and a violation of Regulation 4 of the institution’s Students Disciplinary Regulations (SDR).

The Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis O. in an official statement on Friday, reaffirmed that the disciplinary process was thorough and fair.

The statement reads, “The actors involved were given a fair hearing by the Students Disciplinary Committee. After a thorough review, the act committed by Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious was deemed gross misconduct and a violation of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).”

“Following the committee’s findings, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, approved her immediate expulsion on behalf of the University Senate.”

“She is required to vacate the University premises immediately and return all University property in her possession.”

The university reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline, maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment, and fostering the development of scholars and leaders in character and excellence.
